Found in Jan 2001, Taiwan International Medical Alliance (TIMA) is dedicated to extend the care of the medical profession in hospitals to society by combining technical assistance and humanitarian concerns. Domestically, TIMA strives to raise the standards of medical service and reconstruct the ethics of the medical field. Internationally, TIMA hopes to enhance the international understanding of Taiwanˇ¦s development in public health and democratic institution through strengthening the interaction and networking between different societies and civil organizations. Ultimately, TIMA wishes to form global friendship and earn international respect for Taiwan. TIMA sincerely welcomes you to join us.

Goals

1.   To combine government and civil resources, promote medical and health standard, and to make a commitment to the development of international health and peace.

2.   To strengthen the interactions between international health and medical services and, through the participation in international activities, to normalize the status of Taiwan in the international community.

3.   To unite the resources of Taiwanˇ¦s civil organizations, promote the globalization of NGOs and the spirit of humanitarian assistance, and to develop a fair and just environment.

TIMAˇ¦s focuses for 2002

1. International Cooperation

 To create opportunities of cooperation with international non-governmental organizations in order to develop common strategies and actions

  To exchange perspectives with relevant media, in hopes of letting the international community recognize Taiwaneseˇ¦s right to health and their determination to serve and contribute

 To participate in international conferences and network, to share Taiwanˇ¦s experience in the development of international health and to improve the international visibility of Taiwan

2. Educational training

 To assist government and civil society in cultivating leadership in medical development and to increase the internationalization of health and medical services

 To promote youth global perspectives, awareness of human rights and humanitarian concerns and provide opportunities of service. 

 To promote the professionalization and technologization of humanitarian aids

3. Policy advocacy

  To unite the efforts of various domestic medical organizations in advocating   Taiwanˇ¦s participation in WHO

  To promote methods of international cooperation that are humanitarian, just, transparent and dynamic

  To support activities of humanitarian organizations like Medicine Sans Frontiere and OXFAM

4. Health promotion

 To assist Southeast Asian countries in formulating strategies to discourage youth tobacco use by utilizing Taiwanˇ¦s past policy experiences

 To study comparative adolescent behavior across Asian countries

5. Humanitarian aids and experiences

 To assist hospitals in Thailand and Burma acquire computers, provide technical information and medical volunteers.

 To organize youth tours to said places to provide community service and the gain living experience.
